We’ve chosen the Shakespeare Hospice as our charity for 2014 because of the wonderful work they do, helping individuals make the most of the time they have and their loved ones come to terms with the future.
The insight we have gained into the positive difference they make to the tragic circumstances that arise every day, led our whole team to commit to a series of activities to help raise much needed funds.
On Saturday 14th June two teams took on our Race 2 Base cycling challenge between the westernmost town in Wales and the easternmost town in England. The ‘West’ team, started from St David’s at 05.00 and arrived first at the finishing point of the Hospice 11 hours later, with the ‘East’ team from Lowestoft following a little while later. The winning team of Dean Pipitone, Pete Gillam, Michael Fitzpatrick, Gabby Cooper and Barry Cooper would like to point out not only did they cycle further, 180 miles v 170 miles, but also that the mid Wales terrain was much hillier than the East Anglian, flat as a pancake, fens!
All who took part had a wonderful experience combining teamwork and competition with massive endeavour for a wonderful cause.
On July 20th four members of staff went even even higher and faster; Sacha Mathers, Tom Eaton, John Beacham and Barry Cooper took part in the Hospice Skydive, jumping from a plane 13,000ft up. They all landed safely with big smiles of relief and excitement.
Not content with skydiving and cycling, they will be in a team of 12 out in the field again, tackling the 10k mud, trail and obstacle course of a Wolf Run in September!
