One of the oldest car dealers in Shropshire has given its service department an overhaul with modern technology.
Furrows, which has three dealerships across the county, has invested in cutting-edge software to manage its courtesy car fleet with instant results. The company runs a fleet of around 17 cars which allow customers to stay on the road while their vehicles are being serviced or repaired.
Steve Foden, Service Manager of Furrows Telford, said:
“Courtesy cars are seen as a must for dealers, and we thought we organised them efficiently. “We gave Cooper Solutions a chance purely on the back of a well timed sales call, and it has proved mutually beneficial. “The FullCover system allows us to monitor our fleet much more closely, the usage of our fleet went from around 53 per cent to 71 per cent in the first month. It might actually mean that we could in the future look to reduce the number of cars without affecting our customers, but saving money.”
Furrows have operated in Shropshire for more than 90 years and sell Ford, Mazda, Kia and Skoda cars as well as commercial vehicles. Kate Freshwater, of Cooper Solutions, said Furrows were typical of many dealers.
“Many dealers supply courtesy cars purely as a service to customers but from a business point of view regard them almost as a necessary evil. But by running them more efficiently, monitoring costs and improving efficiency they can reduce their outlay and produce savings for customers. "Furrows are a highly respected dealership in Shropshire, but there are some larger dealers who spend six figures a year on courtesy cars and the potential savings and earnings can make a key difference to their business.”
